'Be True to Your School' - The Beach Boys

The BMOC...Parker's first day of his last year in junior high.
Sarah on her first day of high school, and
Benji, the other BMOC on his first day of his last year in elementary school.

With the kids going back to school, I may have a minute to blog again!

The first day of school was bittersweet...as I sat and reflected after they'd all flown out the front door with a whiff of new tennis shoes and axe cologne, it made me think of my missionaries and how much I miss them. This year will still be busy with our remaining three at home, in three different schools, running in three different directions...but I'm starting to realize how fleeting this adventure is.

My goal this year is to find joy in the journey.

'Life in the Fast Lane' - The Eagles

With only one full week of summer left before school starts, we have been trying to cram as much in as possible. As I watched my day today unfold, I think that could have been a mistake.

On one end of the house, Sarah was teaching one last song and dance workshop for the little neighborhood girls. There were over 30 little girls giggling and screaming and dancing and jumping. Darling, but loud. I can't seem to get
Alvin and the Chipmunks singing 'Funkytown' out of my head.
At the other end of the house, these nice boys were prepping my kitchen cabinets to be refinished.
All my doors and drawers and kitchen 'stuff' needed to be moved.
Life is a little too exciting around here.
A mom's favorite color is school bus yellow.

'Astonishing' - from the Broadway musical, 'Little Women'

'Astonished' isn't how we felt, it's what Sarah sang for her talent piece, which helped her win the title of 'American Fork's Outstanding Teen' on Saturday night! Though I must admit, her dad was a little 'astonished' when he saw his little girl in full hair and stage make-up.

This is a new program, where young women between the ages of 14-16 compete in talent, interview, and a fitness routine for college scholarships. She will represent American Fork in the state competition in October. I'll keep you posted, and post more pictures when we get them...
